Digital Story Reflection

Digital Story Reflection

The digital story assignment was to make a one-minute movie out of pictures and music. It was to be a story about any event or person anything you wanted, and tell the story with the pictures and your recorded voice.
My story was about my grandmother I described her and my mother in it my mother is her daughter. What she looked like and some things she says and does like singing songs to me and how she is afraid of snakes. I used a combination of pictures of my grandmother and other family members old and recent. I used these pictures to show what she and the rest of my family looked like. Also when I added the Nigerian song Bi a ba njoyin by Baba Ara  to it, it pulled the whole movie together and gave a real homey personal effect.
I chose to do this story because at the time my grandmother was about to leave to go to London, and I kept thinking about how I used to be kind of mean to her at times, and I never saw how funny and adorable she is. I knew I was going to start to miss her. My other option was to do a story about my little cousin Christina, but I wanted to do her instead.
I think I did really well the final product looked better than I imagined it would. iMovie was really easy to get the hardest thing is to choose what way you want your pictures to transition and flow in the movie. Digital media was a fun class it was intriguing to make art like you see every day like magazines and movies I always wonder how the did it. I will definitely use these tools in the future like iMovie and Photoshop.

Lyrical Triptych Reflection

Lyrical Triptych Reflection

In the Lyrical Triptych assignment we had to tell the meaning of any song we choose with pictures using Photoshop. By making three panels of artwork incorporating the lyrics of the song. The first step to making it was determining the song I was going to use. The song that I chose was Electric Feel by MGMT. Then I picked what three parts of the song I would use and on which panels they would go. I ended up using the first verse, chorus, and the second verse of the song on three different panels in that order. Then I chose a theme and found pictures for it. Once I had all the pieces I used the Photoshop tools to make my panels. Some of the tools I used were the magnetic lasso that traces around objects, the magic wand that selects thing of matching color, and the rectangular marquee tool.
My Triptych has a forest dancer lightning theme in it, on two out three of the panel there is a ballerina and in all my triptychs there is lightning. In the first panel there is a dancer outlined in lightning and I used the outer glow in blending options to out line her as well. Also in the background is a forest I adjusted the midtones of the picture to make it a bit darker than the original picture. In panel two there is another forest in the background and I also made it darker by adjusting the midtones then there is a picture of a man and a woman about to kiss that I cut out from another image using the magnetic lasso. I put an outer glow around them and put the same lightning from the previous panel on the side of the man. The last panel was much simpler I had a picture of lightning on water in the background then added a picture of a dancer, which I cut out with the magnetic lasso then I put an outer glow on her and more lightning around her.
My lyrics and the pictures go together because the theme of a girl and electricity is in it. The meaning of the song to me is basically a man getting turned on by a woman. So I used a lot of lightning and pictures of girls. Also in the video of the song the were in a forest so that is where the idea for the forest thing came from.
I liked learning how to use Photoshop at first I thought it was going to be difficult but it turned out to be fairly easy once you got familiar with the tools. I think my triptych is good and that it goes with my song well. The only thing I would change is my time management. At first I didn’t want to compromise my original idea but in the end I had too but it turned out for the best.

Magazine Cover Reflection

Magazine Cover Reflection

The first project in my graphic design class was to create a magazine cove. Using Adobe Photoshop, we were assigned to make the cover with ourselves in it and any situation for why we were on the cover. The steps I took to make my magazine cover were simple. First thing, I decided what the concept of my magazine was going to be. Which was me partnering up with Charity Water in Rwanda, to build pipes for clean water. Then I made my layout for the view of my magazine. That is me in a crowd of Rwandan native celebrating the clean water, holding water in the palm of my hands. Next, I found my pictures, which I would, Photoshop in my magazine. Some of my pictures were from the Charity Water website. I used one picture from their trip to Rwanda. I also used a People Magazine logo and my picture. Finally, I used the Photoshop tools, like magnetic lasso, blending options and text, to put together my magazine.
My magazine cover looks like a picture of Rwandan people around a water pump smiling and clapping in celebration. I am placed to the left of all the people with my hand cupped holding water. To the upper right corner there is a People Magazine logo outline by a deep orange color. The headlines say, “ We all need water to survive. And everyone deserves clean healthy water to drink,” and, “ Julie Bamisile partners up with Charity Water to drill pipes in Rwanda.
I guess what I was trying to portray in my magazine s the importance of Charity. How the littlest things can make a big difference for someone. I showed that through my magazine by using a picture of people who didn’t have drinkable water getting a clean water pump for their community. You can see how happy these people are everyone is smiling and rejoicing.
Based on the rubric and the quality of my magazine cover I think I did fairly well. I did what was expected with out losing my creativity in it. The concept of my cover is something I do believe in very much. I wouldn’t do anything differently.
